Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has congratulated the Governor-elect of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on his victory in the just concluded off-cycle governorship election held on Saturday, September 21st in the state.
Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress, APC was declared the winner of the fiercely contested governorship election, defeating his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that the APC candidate scored 291,667 votes while Ighodalo polled 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) came a distant third with 22,761 votes.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia, himself a member of the APC, described the victory of Senator Okpebholo as a “victory for democracy.”
According to him, the “success of the APC in the Edo State governorship election is an indication of the trust and love the people of Edo and Nigerians in general, have in the policies and programmes of the APC led government in the country.”
The Benue governor assured the governor-elect of his support, a robust working relationship, and partnership for the progress of their respective states and the country in general.
While praying to God to grant Senator Okpebholo good health and long political life as he steps in to steer the affairs of the state, Governor Alia him to use the victory as a platform to offer purposeful leadership to the people of Edo State and beyond.
