‘PDP better with fewer loyal members’, Saraki reacts to massive defections

A former Senate president and ex-governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki has reacted to the defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State.

Saraki said the Peoples Democratic Party, despite the massive defections, is better off with loyal, sincere, and committed members.

In a statement released on Thursday, the former Kwara State governor urged members of the PDP to remain calm as he said there is no cause for alarm over the defection that has hit the party.

Stating that he has been inundated with calls over happenings with the PDP, Saraki said the party would be repositioned for good.

“Our numerous party members should know that the PDP is better with fewer members who are loyal, sincere, determined, dedicated, and committed to its ideas, ideals, and progress than to have so many who will identify with us in the afternoon and be romancing the ruling party in the night,” Saraki said.

According to him, the PDP still has about two years before the election to brace up to the challenge it is currently facing.

He also said that nothing stops the PDP from getting governors from other parties to join the PDP.

Appealing to younger PDP members Saraki said that defection is just a mere challenge and that the party will mobilise and put itself in order.

In addition, the former Senate president said the leadership of the PDP would soon address members on this particular challenge and come up with the right strategy to reposition the party.

“Also, our women’s wing should seize the opportunity to help in the rebuilding mission. The PDP will come out stronger from this development.

“Our party members should not lose focus, hope, or the determination to win. We should see the current development as a challenge to rebuild and refocus the party. Tomorrow is very bright,” he added.
