The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi has called for an urgent investigation into the shoddy execution of the multi-billion naira Yauri township roads project.
The party’s Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa-Kalgo, made this appeal during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, October 22.
Bawa-Kalgo expressed deep disappointment over the project’s state, stating, “PDP is appalled by the shoddy execution of the ongoing multi-billion naira Yauri township roads project; it’s most unfortunate and extremely distasteful.”
Reports from the region indicate that several roads are already deteriorating, caving in and breaking apart just months after their supposed completion.
The party has demanded that the State Ministry of Works take full responsibility for this apparent contractual breach and act swiftly to rectify the situation.
“It is imperative that the State Ministry of Works take full responsibility for this glaring contractual breach,” Bawa-Kalgo asserted.
He called on Governor Nasir Idris to take decisive action against any officials found negligent in their duties, warning that accountability is essential to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“This would hopefully save the state from the resulting wastage of its scarce resources without extracting the commensurate value from that place,” he added.
Bawa-Kalgo further lamented the project’s importance, noting that it directly impacts the lives of the poor and should not be compromised.
“PDP is extremely shocked that a project of this magnitude can be compromised in this manner so soon,” he concluded, highlighting earlier warnings raised by vigilant residents about the quality of the construction.
