PDP crisis deepens as Wike’s allies pull out of Atiku campaign council

As the 2023 election gathers steam, loyalists of Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, have pulled out of the campaign council of Atiku Abubakar, presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this is coming amid the pressure on the party’s National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, to resign. The pressure is coming mainly from Governor Wike and his allies, which includes his co-governors.

Rising from a meeting in Port Harcourt on Wednesday morning, Wike’s loyalists vowed not to take part in Atiku’s campaign activities until Ayu steps down.

Bode George, a PDP chieftain in Lagos State, read the communique on behalf of the group.

Among those who attended the meeting which was held at Wike’s residence were former Governors Olusegun Mimiko, Ibrahim Dankwambo, Jonah Jang, Ayo Fayose, and Donald Duke.

Also present were Professor Jerry Gana, a former Minister of Information; former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche; and South-South Chairman of the PDP, Chief Dan Orbih.
