PDP demand answers as rumours of Delta governor’s move to APC gains momentum

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, under the banner of the Concerned Leaders of PDP, have called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to address rumours suggesting he is planning to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an open letter made public, the group accused the governor of secretly courting influential figures such as Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in an apparent bid to secure a second term as governor.

The PDP leaders expressed their dissatisfaction, demanding a clear and immediate response from the governor to allay fears and clarify his political intentions. They warned that any further silence on the matter could be seen as an indication of his intention to join the ruling APC.

The letter referenced the governor’s alleged private meetings with top APC figures, including a recent gathering in Lagos that reportedly discussed his defection.

The PDP leaders also accused Oborevwori of fraternizing with APC members in Delta State, including sponsoring dissident factions within the party.

They criticized the governor for publicly endorsing President Tinubu’s policies and making a statement saying: “If President Tinubu fails, I also fail.”

The PDP leaders noted that such actions betrayed the trust of the party members who worked tirelessly for his emergence as governor.

The open letter also raised concerns about the governor’s governance style, accusing him of alienating key party members and relying on a “family affairs” policy, which they claim has marginalized critical voices within the PDP.

They questioned his commitment to the party, suggesting that his alleged actions could negatively impact the political aspirations of other PDP members in the state.

The Concerned Leaders of the PDP concluded the letter by urging the governor to provide clarity on his intentions, stressing that they would not stand by while the party’s future is jeopardized by personal ambition.

They warned that failure to address the matter could force them to take further actions to protect the interests of the PDP in Delta State.
