PDP Eyes Peter Obi’s Return Ahead of 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed ongoing efforts to woo former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, back to its ranks ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ibrahim Abdullahi, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, made this known on Thursday during an interview on Arise News.

“Peter Obi is our product, and the PDP indeed wants to get him back. He is a very great capital for any political party, and any political party that will have him will be to their advantage,” Abdullahi stated.

Obi, who was the PDP’s vice-presidential candidate in the 2019 election, left the party in 2022 to join the Labour Party, where he clinched the presidential ticket and contested in the 2023 elections.

Despite what Abdullahi described as electoral “rigging and frustration,” Obi secured over six million votes and won twelve states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), placing third behind the eventual winner Bola Tinubu of the APC and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar.

“The truth of the matter is if he had not gone the way he did in the last dispensation and proved that mettle to generate over six million in spite of the rigging and frustration of his chances in many of the states — Peter Obi is truly a political capital, no doubt about it,” Abdullahi added.

Obi, who remains a member of the Labour Party, recently expressed willingness to collaborate with the coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Recall that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s flag bearer in the last two presidential elections, has resigned from the party.
