Former National Vice Chairman and Zonal Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-East, Nze Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu, has condemned the party’s handling of the 2023 presidential election, accusing it of betraying the South-East.
Chukwu criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for contesting under the PDP, calling it a “total violation of the party’s constitution and tradition.”
He stated that while Atiku is respected by Ndigbo, his decision “dealt a fatal blow” to the party’s integrity.
He also blamed ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for their interest in the 2023 PDP ticket, arguing that they ignored the “sensitivities and expectations” of the South East.
“The South-East had paid its dues within the PDP and expected reciprocity, but the party failed them,” he stated.
He urged South-East PDP leaders to review their roles in the region’s exclusion from the presidential ticket.
He criticized those “pretending to be heroes of the Igbo” while allegedly lacking conscience.
Citing the PDP constitution, Chukwu reaffirmed that power should rotate between the North and South, ensuring fair representation of geopolitical zones.
Calling for national reconciliation and healing, he urged Nigerians to support a leader with “character, honour, integrity, empathy, and compassion” rather than one driven by “the pathology of the IDP of our tumultuous political past.”
