PDP Governors to Hold Emergency Meeting Today to Address Crisis in Rivers

The governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have convened an emergency meeting to address the crisis between the governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The meeting, scheduled to hold today at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, by 3 p.m., is aimed at ensuring that the crisis does not go out of hand.

A source close to the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) said that the meeting has become imperative because the governors cannot afford to sit back while things go wrong.

“As a Forum (PDP-GF), we must act fast to ensure that this crisis doesn’t go out of hand as such will not be to the benefit of anybody,” the source said.

The source also disclosed that the November 11 governorship elections in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi states, as well as other issues of national importance, will be discussed at the meeting.

The perceived rift between the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, and the governor of Rivers State, Fubara, escalated on Monday when an attempt to impeach Governor Fubara failed.

The rift between Governor Fubara, who assumed office barely six months ago, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, is said to be connected to Gov. Fubara’s move to revive the state-owned Songhai Farm, which was initiated by former Governor Chibuike Amaechi, as well as the governor’s recent swearing in of four commissioners without the express permission of Wike.
