PDP is Nigeria’s only political Iroko tree – Bode George slams Wike over sealing of party HQ

A former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory over the sealing of the party’s headquarters in Abuja.

George reacting to the alleged blockade of members PDP board from accessing the National Secretariat for the National Executive Council meeting on Monday, said no individual is bigger than the party.

He described PDP as a political Iroko tree that cannot be shaken.

Recall that the PDP’s board of trustees were expected at the party’s NEC meeting but were denied access into the build by some security officers.

Although the police has denied its involvement, in preventing the political leaders from accessing the building, George said the action is aimed at stifling internal democracy.

“You came to our office, surrounded by police, because you want to have a meeting? You want to turn us to North Korea? Or turn this country to Russia? We will not allow it,” George said.

Also noting that such action is unacceptable, George added that Nigerians are watching the display of “madness” going on within the polity.

He further called for caution against actions that could undermine Nigeria’s democracy.

According to George, PDP is a platform for dialogue, not suppression and must be allowed to function as such.

“PDP is the only political Iroko tree in this country. You are saying we cannot stand? Can you tell an Iroko tree in the bush that it cannot stand? Is it possible?” George queried.

“This is why we came for the meeting — PDP is not a private enterprise. You don’t resolve party matters outside. You must sit down,” he added.
