The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has reacted to the Appeal Court’s ruling upholding the election of Governor Alex Otti and has vowed to “explore the options available.”
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s acting State Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah, urged the PDP supporters to be calm as the party is still reviewing the judgement of the court.
The PDP had challenged Otti’s victory in the March 18, 2023, governorship election, alleging that the election was marred by irregularities, including manipulation of results.
However, the Appeal Court, in a unanimous decision on Saturday, while upholding Otti’s victory, dismissed the petition by the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The court ruled that the appellants’ petitions lacked merit, describing them as “a comedy skit brought to a democratic setting.”
Reacting, Amah said that the PDP “have a duty to the people of Abia State to ensure that their votes are counted and that their voices are heard.”
