The lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District, Abba Moro has urged the Senate to temper justice with mercy in the case of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
Speaking on Thursday, March 6, while the Senate leadership ordered a voting on the proposed suspension of Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Committee of Ethics and Privileges, Moro acknowledged that the Kogi lawmaker had violated rules of the senate over the seat rearrangement in the Red Chamber.
Describing the Kogi lawmaker as a recalcitrant child, Moro urged the Senate to reduce Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from six month to three months.
Moro’s plea comes shortly after the Committee on Ethics and Privileges had recommended a six-month suspension for Akpoti-Uduaghan.
He said, “We are not against, the report. Mr President, I want to remind all of us that we are all Nigerians and as Nigerians and as Nigerians, we have a tradition that encapsulates in the sage that if we beat a child with your right, you draw that child with the left hand.
We therefore say that, this Senate is aware that even in our homes we have very recalcitrant children, we dont drive the children out of our homes oo! But we keep begging them to be of good behaviour.
“Sometimes we beat them too, and so today we are faced with this situation that we all know hinges on the integrity of this institution.,”Moro said.
