The Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday withdrew its suit against the Zamfara State Deputy Governor Alhaji Mahadi Aliyu Gusau over the defection of the governor, Bello Matawalle to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Matawalle had on June 29 officially dumped the PDP for the APC.
However, Matawalle and Gusau were sued as co-defendants in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/489/202, despite the fact that the Deputy Governor remains a PDP member.
The suits were filed by two PDP members from Zamfara State, Sani Kaura Ahmed and Abubakar Muhammed.
In a new twist, the PDP on Friday, through its lead counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN) applied for withdrawal of the deputy governor’s name on the ground that there was no evidence of defection from him.
Matawalle became Governor after the Supreme Court had ruled that the APC had no candidate in the 2019 governorship election in the state.
