PenCom scheme worsening retirees’ woes, pensioners tell Tinubu, Akpabio

Pensioners under the Correctional Officers Pencom Retirees Association of Nigeria (COPRAN) have said that the contributory Pension Commission (PenCom) scheme is worsening their plights.

In a petition addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the pensioners informed Nigeria’s number one citizen that they were starved of their funds by PenCom after retirement.

Also copied in the petition are the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Labour, and the National Human Rights Commission, among others.

In the petition signed by Anthony Ayiwulu, the president of COPRAN, Plateau Command, the retirees said that the PENCOM policy, although made in good faith, has caused more harm than good to Nigeria’s senior citizens.

The retirees added that there is a need for a review of the policy to achieve effective results for the pensioners.

“In the current situation of the country with the rate of inflation, retirees have a lot of bills to pick including taking care of their health.

“There should exist a spirit of fairness in the nation’s dealings with its citizens and in the payment of civil, public servants and retirees promptly, would help them cope with retirement,” Ayiwulu said.
