1. President Buhari extends Lockdown again by 2 weeks

President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and some other states in the country by two weeks. The President made this announcement in a national broadcast this evening aired on NTA. He urged Nigerians to be very calm and endure the measures put in place in order to overcome COVID-19.

2. Coronavirus: Additional 1 Million Households To Get N20,000 Each – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the addition of one million households to the existing number of vulnerable households eligible for the Federal Government’s palliatives. He made it known during the nationwide broadcast of Monday. Recall that the conditional cash transfer programme has generated controversies among Nigerians who have decried the lack of transparency in the distribution of the 20,000 naira per household. However, the Federal government defended that it could not use bank transfers because the majority of the vulnerable people do neither have a Bank Verification Number (BVN) or have access to banks.

3. COVID-19 Lockdown: Buhari Signs Quarantine Order Into Law

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed the Quarantine Order into law, giving legal backing to the lockdown extension in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT. In a national broadcast to Nigerians on Monday, the president said he relied on powers conferred on him by Sections 2, 3 and 4 of the Quarantine Act (CAP Q2 LFN 2004). The Regulations, effective March 30, 2020, also gave legal backing to the various measures outlined in the President’s National Broadcast on March 29, 2020.

4. Nigeria Records 20 New COVID-19 Cases Hours After Buhari’s Broadcast

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said 20 new confirmed cases of coronavirus have been recorded, bringing the total number of infections in Nigeria to 343. In a tweet via its Twitter handle, the center said of the 20 new cases, 13 were recorded in Lagos State, two in Edo, two in Kano, two in Ogun and one in Ondo.

5. COVID-19 Lockdown: “You Can’t Get Palliatives Across To Nigerians From Abuja” Afenifere Tells Buhari

A Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has reacted to the extension of the lockdown by 14 days in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states. POLITICS NIGERIA reported how the extension, which is to curb the spread of coronavirus, was announced by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday. However, in its reaction sent to POLITICS NIGERIA through the spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere expresses worry over the continuation without necessary palliatives.

6. Man Shot Dead By Suspected Cultists

Suspected cultists on Sunday killed one Senitonkumo Otu, popularly known as Murphy, during an invasion attack of Azikoro-Agbura, Yenagoa. POLITICS NIGERIA gathered that the young man, who is an artisan, was shot dead by the hoodlums. According to some of his neighbours, Otu might have been mistakenly killed for another target of the cultists.

7. COVID-19 Lockdown: Kaduna Government Partially Lifts Ban On Curfew

The Kaduna state government has partially lifted the ban on curfew imposed in the Northern state, POLITICS NIGERIA reports. It made the announcement in a statement signed on Monday evening by Commissioner, Internal Security, and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan. He said the State Committee on COVID-19 announced that markets will partially open on Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 15, 2020, from 8am to 6pm on each day.

8. “Iberiberism” – Ohanaeze Attacks Igbo Billionaires Over COVID-19 Cash Donations

Apex Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has expressed its disappointment in some billionaires of Igbo extraction for making cash donations to the federal government to fight COVID-19. In a statement to POLITICS NIGERIA on Monday afternoon, signed by its spokesman, Mr Chuks Ibegbu, the group stated that Igbo billionaires that donated money to the government were suffering from ‘Iberiberism’.

9. 2023: APC Warns Leaders Against Exposure Of Party’s Data

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has warned party leaders against releasing party’s data to unauthorized individuals ahead of the 2023 election. This was disclosed in a statement made available to journalists late Sunday evening. The release obtained by POLITICS NIGERIA was signed by the party’s chairman in Osun, Gboyega Famodun.

10. Imo Governor, Hope Uzodinma Reveals COVID-19 Test Results

The Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma has opened up on the results of his COVID-19 test revealing that he tested negative. In a statement via Instagram on Monday, Uzodinma called on Nigerians to their best to ensure that they follow precautionary measures to avoid contracting the deadly coronavirus.
