Former Nigerian goalkeeper Peterside Idah has called for the dismissal of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro despite the team’s runner-up finish at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Idah advocated for Peseiro’s exit despite the coach guiding the Super Eagles to their first AFCON final since 2013.
The outspoken former international criticised Peseiro’s defensive tactics, claiming they clash with the traditional attacking style associated with Nigerian football.
“You know, a lot of people asked me yesterday, the coach got to the finals. What do you think? I said, “Fire him, he said on Monday’s edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
When asked whether Nigerian football has an identity, he said: “Let me make it a little bit lighter for us, when we were younger, we used to shout ‘aaa, ooo’ while watching Nigeria’s game, what that sound signifies is that our football as a Nation is pass-based.”
