The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reacted to the strike by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
In a post on his X handle, Obi stated that the Federal Government’s lack of response could have serious negative consequences for Nigerian citizens and the economy.
He also noted that the strike is already affecting critical sectors and could escalate if not addressed swiftly.
“I strongly appeal to the Federal Government to intervene quickly to resolve this dispute in a manner that protects the interests of the Nigerian people, Nigerian workers, Nigerian investors, and the economy at large,” Obi said.
He emphasised that protecting these interests through a win-win solution is a primary responsibility of any responsible government.
Obi further urged the government to adopt proactive measures to address labour crises before they escalate, stressing that such interventions are crucial to prevent further hardship for citizens who are already struggling.
“The Federal Government must learn to nip in the bud labour crises that have the potential to create further suffering for our people,” he added.
