Peter Obi donates N50 million to his alma mater

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has donated ₦50 million to Christ the King College (CKC), Onitsha, his alma mater, in support of infrastructure development.

Obi, who served as governor of Anambra between 2006 and 2014, made the donation during a visit to the school on Thursday.

He was accompanied by fellow CKC alumni who also contributed to the gesture.

Speaking at the event, Obi said the donation was his way of giving back to the institution that helped shape his formative years.

“This school helped form the values I and many others still hold till today, the discipline, moral grounding, and academic excellence,” he said.

The former governor called on other old students of CKC and alumni across the country to support their alma maters in any way they can.

He said the burden of developing Nigeria’s education sector should not rest solely on the government shoulders.

“We must all come together to support education and give children a better future,” Obi said.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, Archbishop Valerian Okeke of Onitsha praised Obi and the CKC Old Boys for their commitment to education.

Okeke said the gesture would go a long way in enhancing the school’s infrastructure and learning environment. He offered prayers for the donors and urged other Nigerians to emulate their example.
