Doyin Okupe, the running mate to Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in respect of the 2023 election, has distanced the former Anambra State governor from a purported endorsement by a former Emir of Kano State, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the viral statement posted several times across different social media platforms had chided the presidential candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
In another screenshot being circulated on social media, it was claimed that the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, promised to mobilise five million votes for Peter Obi.
“I will mobilize 5 million votes in the North for Peter Obi, I have never believed in an Igbo man the way I believe in Peter Obi – Sultan” the post read.
But Obi’s camp has rubbished the reports.
“We dissociate ourselves from the purported endorsements of his candidacy by HRH Lamido Sanusi and His Eminence The Sultan of Sokoto. We plead wt all our supporters to pls desist from creating falsehood in the social media. Lets focus on claims that are verifiable & true,” Okupe said via Twitter on Tuesday.
