A key chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and former campaign coordinator for Mr. Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, Prince Emeka Mamah, has officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mamah’s defection was attributed to what he described as the outstanding leadership and performance of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
He stated that the administration’s accomplishments had not only restored public trust but also inspired him and many of his supporters to return to the PDP.
Joining him in the defection is the immediate-past State Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party and former chairmanship candidate for Igboeze North Local Government Area, Barr. Titus Odo.
Both were received at the PDP state headquarters on Tuesday by the party chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwuweike.
Welcoming the defectors, Dr. Chukwuweike declared that the PDP was growing stronger under Governor Mbah’s administration, which he said had repositioned the party as the dominant political force in the state.
He argued that opposition parties such as the LP and APC were losing relevance due to dwindling public confidence.
His words: “The governor’s philosophy of transparency, accountability, and transformational leadership has been the game changer.
“This has led to mass defections. We are expecting more, including not less than four National Assembly members in the next few days.”
Speaking at the event, Prince Mamah praised Governor Mbah for redefining governance in the state.
“The present governor has shown that governance can be different from what it used to be. His performance has touched many of us, and that’s why I, and many others, have decided to return to the PDP,” he said.
Mamah, a former Commissioner for Environment and Rural Development, added that more political heavyweights previously alienated from the PDP were now returning, motivated by Mbah’s inclusive leadership.
Barr. Odo, on his part, described his return to the PDP as a homecoming.
He noted that the achievements of the Mbah administration, as well as the influence of Barr. Chijioke Edeoga played a significant role in his decision.
He urged residents of the state to support the current administration to ensure the completion of ongoing developmental projects across the 260 wards in Enugu.
