A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ladan Salihu, has stated that the party is now a step closer to the Presidential Villa following the defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.

Salihu claimed on Friday while speaking during an interview, stating that Obi, alongside other prominent South-East leaders, had officially defected to the ADC in Enugu on Wednesday.

Describing Obi’s move as a major political boost, Salihu said it marked a defining moment for the party and Nigeria’s political landscape.

“The declaration of Mr Peter Obi joining the ADC is a political blockbuster. It is one step into the Presidential Villa,” he said.

“This is a defining moment in our political history. We are now working to strengthen the party and position it as a formidable opposition force in the country.

“Some weeks ago, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar declared for the ADC. Now we have Peter Obi, and numbers do not lie.

“Combined, the two secured about 63 per cent of the total votes in the 2023 presidential election.

“When you put that into perspective, you can confidently say that Peter Obi’s entry into the ADC has placed the party in pole position, with one leg already in the Presidential Villa.”
