A former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, on Saturday said there cannot be a merger of political parties at this time.
POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that a former governor of Kano State and presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Saturday, confirmed that his party is in talks with Labour Party (LP) and its presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, for possibility of forming a coalition.
Kwankwaso disclosed this in an interview with BBC Hausa Service.
Since Obi and Kwankwaso declared their political interests, they have both received a large following in the major parts of the country.
Taking to his verified Twitter handle, Sani said a defection can happen, but not a merger.
“There can’t be merger of parties at this time; Only but members of one party migrating to the other,” Sani said.
