Peter Obi’s political influence dwindling – LP’s chair claims

The chairman of the Labour Party in Lagos State, Dayo Ekong has said that the political influence of Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate is dwindling.

Ekong also called on the former governor of Anambra State to ensure he takes a step back and uses the opportunity to pause, reflect on his political career, and plan for the future.

In a post made on X on Tuesday, Ekong said the hike profile Obi enjoyed in 2023 was due to the Labour Party’s structures, grassroots mobilisation and public desire for change.

The party chair added that the type of grace which Obi enjoyed in the past has now faded.

She said this is happening due to the kind of inconsistent political choices and moves the presidential candidate has been making.

“In 2023, Nigerians rallied behind him because he represented a fresh alternative.

“But today, his actions are beginning to erode the foundation of that support,” Ekong stated.

Also citing an instance with Olumide Akpata, the 2024 Edo governorship candidate, Ekong said Obi supported him against the choice of Labour Party leaders.
