Petroleum tanker explodes, burns two cars in Ibadan

A petroleum tanker explodes on Thursday night at the Agodi gate area of Ibadan, Oyo State, only a few metres away from the Ibadan Zonal office of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). Two cars were also burnt in the incident.

According to sources, the tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit, tipped and burst in flames, burning the two cars that were parked nearby.

Oyo State Fire Services Director of Operations Mr Ismail Adeleke confirmed the incident. He said the fire was put off around 11 p.m.

He explained that the driver of the tanker lost control of the vehicle and fell, spilling its load onto the road. He added that the two cars were completely destroyed, but no life was claimed by the incident.

“The fire started from the engine compartment of the tanker, and the driver, having seen the burning fire, panicked and jumped out of the moving truck,” said Mr Adeleke.

“The vehicle lost control and fell, spilling its content on the road, and fire raged along the way. Two cars were destroyed, but no life was lost in the inferno.”
