Plateau Governor Reveals Platform for 2027 Ambition, Speaks on PDP Crisis

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, has shed light on the political platform on which he intends to contest the 2027 election.

According to the governor, there are no fears over the future of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the general elections.

“The worst fear people had about the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is gone,” Mutfwang said in an interview with the Nigerian Guild of Editors on Sunday, September 21.

“We got stuck at a point, but I think that PDP is back on its road. Where it will get to only God knows. But for now, we’re in a good place,” he added.

Speaking on his administration’s priorities, the governor likened governance to football coaching, stressing that leaders must adjust to realities on the ground. He explained that no leader comes into office with a full picture of government challenges.

On tourism, he said his government is working with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on a master plan to unlock the state’s natural potential. “You can’t do tourism without hospitality. They go hand-in-hand,” he noted.

Mutfwang also addressed the high cost of housing in Jos. He revealed that new estates for civil servants were underway and more lands have been cleared for development.

On agriculture, the governor cited the creation of the Plateau Commodities Marketing Company, which has been intervening in cases of glut to protect farmers. He said the initiative aims to add value to farm produce and prevent losses.

Responding to questions on media freedom, the governor said his administration has no record of gagging the press. He, however, urged reporters to weigh the consequences of their reports, warning that exaggerated headlines fuel tension and scare away investors.

On land grabbing, Mutfwang explained that while attacks still occur in border villages, his government is opening more access roads to improve security response time. He promised that the Rogers Committee report on the crisis would be forwarded to President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs.

Mutfwang maintained that his political journey would be guided by God and the people of Plateau.
