The governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang has said that the incessant killings in the state are pure acts of genocide.
Mutfwang said this while reacting to the recent killings of over 20 people – mainly family members of farmers in Jebbu Binde village of Ta-Hoss District in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
The governor also added that attacks and killings are not just a mere farmers-herders conflict as assumed by many.
“This is not a case of farmer-herder conflict. This is terrorism; this is genocide, plain and simple. And I assure you, we will escalate this matter to the highest levels,” Mutfwang said.
Recall that some gunmen had attacked the community on Monday, killing over 30 people and destroying property worth millions of naira.
Speaking to the victims of the attack, the governor said his administration will not abandon the people.
Mutfwang also assured that his government is committed to protecting every resident of Plateau State and their property.
“Let me promise you, by the grace of God, Riyom will not fall. We will deploy every resource at our disposal to end this genocide.
“We cannot continue like this. These attackers are not spirits; real people carried out these atrocities and vanished without a trace,” the governor added.
