A joint operation conducted by security forces has led to the arrest of four commanders belonging to the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the individuals were apprehended on suspicion of their involvement in the recent attack on a convoy of United States embassy officials in Ogbaru, Anambra State.
The ESN, the armed wing of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), was established with the aim of combating the menace of terrorist herdsmen that have plagued the entire South East region.
These attackers have been responsible for devastating agricultural lands, perpetrating acts of sexual assault against women in their farms, and mercilessly taking lives during the eight-year tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Furthermore, the group has faced accusations of targeting security checkpoints and engaging in extortion against security personnel.
During the joint operation, led by the Commander of the Naval base in Onitsha and the Anambra State Police Command, the wife of one of the apprehended commanders was also taken into custody.
The incident that sparked this investigation occurred on May 17, 2023, in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. Four members of the United States Embassy staff and several security agents were fatally shot, and their bodies were subjected to arson, while others were kidnapped during the incident.
