The police command in Rivers has arrested four persons suspected of being involved in the armed robbery attack on a female hostel at the state-owned university in Port Harcourt two weeks ago.
The Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, who disclosed this while speaking on a live radio programme on Tuesday, said some of the suspects were not university students.
Nwonyi stated that three pistols were recovered from the suspected armed robbers, adding that an investigation was still on to arrest other gang members.
The armed robbers had, on August 23, invaded the female hostel carting away with mobile phones, cash and other valuables.
Hostels “D” and “C” near the school back gate, where many female students are accommodated, were raided at about 1:45 a.m., and some were reportedly sexually assaulted.
The next day, the female students protested, demanding that the university authorities take immediate action to investigate the incident and apprehend the culprits.
