The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a prominent businessman in Anambra State, Chief Pius Nweke, over alleged possession of an unlicensed firearm.
It was learned that Nweke, who is the owner of Best Aluminum Group was stopped, searched, and arrested by the Inspector-General of Police team at about 12pm on Friday in Awada Street, Onitsha.
According to Haruna Mohammed, spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, the businessman was driving a Lexus SUV when he was stopped by the police. However, an automatic pistol was found in his possession with 10 rounds of ammunition in it.
It was gathered that Nweke is one of those leading Abba people of Njikoka Local Government Area to protest against the Supreme Court land judgment in favor of Prince Arthur Eze Na’Ukpo.
Recall that the billionaire’s house was destroyed a few days ago at his country home, Abba by men allegedly under the command of Eze.
Abba and Ukpo communities have been enmeshed in a land tussle that has spanned over forty years. Yesterday, Abba community took their protest to Anambra State Government House Awka, alleging Police harassment of their indigenes and the continued encroachment of their land by the neighboring Ukpo community.
