The Rivers State Police Command has officially confirmed the alarming news of an unknown number of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members being kidnapped along the East-West Road in Rivers State.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that this incident occurred just hours after Dr. Chidi Lloyd, the chairman of Emohua local government area, publicly offered a bounty of N1 million for the capture of 22-year-old Onuigwe Wodi. Wodi is wanted for his alleged involvement in the heinous crimes of murdering policemen, engaging in cult activities, kidnapping, and armed robbery along the East-West Road.
In response to the escalating crime rates in the area, Lloyd also declared the suspension of salary payments for members of the Emohua Vigilante Service (EMOVIS), as they have been unable to effectively combat the surge in criminal activities within the local government area.
Reports indicate that the targeted youth corps members were en route to Port Harcourt from the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ondo State when their bus was ambushed by armed gunmen suspected to be kidnappers. The incident occurred on Tuesday night in the Emohua axis of the East-West Road.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Rivers State, informed the press in Port Harcourt that a number of youth corps members managed to escape the attack and have since been rescued. In response to the situation, tactical teams have been swiftly deployed to the area with the primary objective of securing the safe release of the abducted NYSC members.
