The Nigeria Police Force has ordered a large-scale deployment of personnel ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, in what is described as one of the most extensive mobilisations in recent years.
More than 20,000 operatives drawn from state commands, zonal formations, and specialised units will be deployed to ensure security during the polls.
A wireless message issued by the Department of Operations at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and addressed to all commissioners of police and tactical units, confirmed the directive of the Inspector-General of Police for immediate mobilisation.
The signal, marked “very important,” instructed formations to forward verified personnel records and salary account details by September 19, 2025. It further warned that units would be held accountable for unpaid allowances resulting from incorrect submissions.
The deployment list shows contributions from Force Headquarters departments, state commands, and tactical formations. States such as Lagos, Rivers, Ogun, and the Federal Capital Territory will each contribute large contingents, with Lagos and Rivers alone releasing 1,500 personnel each.
In addition, specialised squads including the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Protection Unit, and the Special Intelligence Squad will provide reinforcement. The PMF tops the chart with more than 4,000 operatives, while other tactical units such as the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, Airwing, Marine Police, and the K9 Unit will also participate.
