Police detain 40-year-old ex-convict for alleged kidnapping, armed robbery

The police in Edo State have detained a 40-year-old ex-convict for kidnapping and armed robbery in the state.

Richard John was arrested alongside other suspects for committing a series of offences including armed robbery, kidnapping and stealing.

Speaking durubg a press bruefing in Benin, the commissioner of Police in the state, Nemi Edwin-Iwo ssid some members of the gang are still at large.

According to the CP, members of the gang who are at large include, Ishmael Peter, the gang leader; Emmanuel Audu and another suspect simply identified as Lucky.

Edwin-Iwo also noted John had earlier served his hail term with some of the fleeing suspects at Koton-Karfe Prison in Kogi state.

He added that the susoectrr had attacked one Promise Ehichiya Illela Quarters, Ekpoma, Edo State on May 7.

He said the victim was tied up and taken to an unknown location for a random of N6 million.

He was only released by the suspects after the random had been paid.

His words, “They also made away with the victim’s vehicle and other household items, including phones of various make, electronics, jewelries and clothing from the house.

“The vehicle, a Toyota Venza marked LND 438 HM, was later abandoned and recovered by police operatives’” the CP said.

He noted that the police acting on intelligence with personnel of State Intelligence Deoartnent arrested John Abdullahi at the Zone C area of Apo Resettlement Quarters in Abuja.

He said, “A beretta pistol with three live ammunition was recovered from a bag in his possession.

“Further search in his home led to the recovery of the gold chain and bracelet earlier stolen during the kidnap incident in Ekpoma,” he noted.

Further, the John led the police in the arrest of other suspects including Emmanuel Audu and Ishmael Peter who were arrested in their home.

He added that an unregistered gold coloured Toyota Sienna, two motorcycles usually used by the suspects for operations were recovered in the process.
