Police exhume bodies of kidnap victims in Akwa Ibom

Bodies of kidnap victims buried by their abductors have been exhumed by the Police in Akwa Ibom State.

The Police Command in the state said it exhumed the bodies of abducted hunters of the Ministry of Internal Security and Inland Waterways.

The victims were said to have been kidnapped, murdered and buried in shallow graves, on August 18.

According to reports, the kidnappers operated in Unyenghe, Mbo Local Government Area (LGA) of Akwa Ibom.

A statement by the police spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, ASP Timfon John, said the Command exhumed the bodies on Thursday.

John said five suspects were arrested alongside the Village Head of Utit Antai, Okon Asuquo Eteokpo.

Okon is said to be the suspect’s ally and spiritual fortifier.

She also said 15 live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

“Upon their arrest, a combined team of the Command launched a comprehensive search for the corpses and found them buried in shallow graves after hours of frantic toil, with their heads dismembered,” John said.
