A police inspector, identified as Lawal Ibrahim from the Kwali Division, has been found dead in a hotel room in the Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
According to reports, Ibrahim died following a rendezvous with a woman he reportedly met online.
The incident occurred at Palasa Guest Inn early last Thursday. According to sources, the inspector had invited the woman, identified as Maryam Abba, from Dutse, Jigawa State, three months after their initial interaction on social media.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the pair had engaged in intimate relations upon checking into the hotel on Wednesday evening.
The following morning, around 6 a.m., the duo reportedly engaged in another round, after which the inspector began breathing erratically and became unresponsive.
Maryam, noticing the unusual condition, attempted to revive him by sprinkling water but received no response. She alerted the hotel manager, Danlami Palasa, who then reported the situation to the Gwagwalada police division.
Police officers arrived at the scene and found the lifeless body of the inspector in the hotel room. His remains were subsequently taken to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Authorities recovered several items from the room, including watermelon, a drug suspected to be an aphrodisiac, a phone charger, and the deceased’s police identity card.
Maryam has been taken into custody, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is underway.
A police source from the Gwagwalada division confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, adding that efforts are being made to determine the cause of death.
