The Adamawa State Police Command has dismissed claims circulating on social media that Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s convoy was attacked by armed robbers in Taraba State.
The Commissioner of Police, Moris Danwambo, in a statement issued on Thursday, described the reports as false and misleading. He clarified that while an incident occurred on December 19 involving the governor’s advance security vehicle, it was not an attack on the convoy itself.
According to the statement, the advance security vehicle, which was travelling ahead of the governor’s convoy as part of standard VIP security procedures, encountered a roadblock set up by armed robbers. The incident occurred on a busy highway where other commuters had been forced to halt their journeys, with vehicles lined up on the roadside due to the obstruction.
Danwambo explained that the security team acted swiftly and decisively. “The gallant officers in the advance vehicle promptly responded to the situation by confronting the robbers, clearing the road and ensuring the safe continuation of movement for all motorists,” he stated.
The convoy, including Governor Fintiri, continued their journey without further incident.
The Commissioner of Police praised the officers for being proactive and appealed to social media handlers to always verify their facts before going public.
