Police redeploys Wike’s ex-CSO sacked by Gov Fubara to head Special Protection Unit in Rivers

The Nigeria Police Force has deployed Promise Wosu, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as the new commander of the Special Protection Unit, tagged Base 6 in Rivers State.

This information was obtained from signals obtained by SaharaReporters.

Wosu’s deployment to lead the special unit comes shortly after his dismissal as the CSO to the current Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.

Sources quoted in the report suggest his dismissal might be linked to the State House of Assembly’s alleged actions aimed at impeaching Fubara under directives from ex-Governor Wike.

The Special Protection Unit (SPU) that Wosu now heads was established in 2009 to enhance security around Very Important Persons (VIPs) and diplomats.

Additionally, two other former aides of the FCT minister were similarly redeployed to oversee the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and ‘Operation Sting’: Irikefe London Owen, a former Camp Commandant of Rivers Government House, and Emmanuel Nwakanme.

The sources indicate that the changes were orchestrated to consolidate control over the security apparatus in Rivers State in favour of the FCT Minister and potentially facilitate the impeachment of Governor Fubara.

A signal signed by AIG Olarewaju Yomi Oladimeji, the Police Force Secretary, dated October 31st, 2023, was sighted in the report.

“Barrister Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT, had imposed the sacked CSO, Promise Wosu, Camp Commandant of Government House, Irikefe London and Emmanuel Nwakanma to head police tactical squads in Rivers State.

“This is to give way for easy impeachment of his successor, Fubara. They are to head CTU, SPU and Operation Sting in Rivers State,” a senior police officer said in a message to SaharaReporters.
