The Imo state Police Command on Wednesday ordered an investigation into the killing of seven persons and injuring of others by some unknown gunmen in Umuafom, in Orogwe community, Owerri Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, on Monday.
POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that seven people have been confirmed dead after the gunmen opened fire on residents.
The gunmen attack on Monday night was in ‘retaliation’ to an earlier seizure of a youth of the community by Ebubeagu operatives.
In a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Micheal Abattam, the police said the killers are members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its arm affiliate, Eastern Security Network (ESN).
Also, the Police confirmed it was seven people who lost their lives during the shooting.
“The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Ahmed Barde psc (+) has ordered for a discreet investigation into the incident, promising that the Command will go all out in ensuring that the perpetrators of this dastardly act are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” the police’s statement reads in part.
