In a joint operation involving the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, and civil defence corps, security forces have successfully dismantled an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) factory, allegedly belonging to the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
The operation also resulted in the recovery of the bodies of burnt police officers and the arrest of two suspects.
Lt.-Col. Jonah Unuakhalu, Acting Deputy Director of 82 Division Army Public Relations, revealed in a statement that the troops engaged in the operation encountered several IEDs but managed to destroy the factory and uncover hidden camps and structures used by IPOB and Eastern Security Network (ESN) members.
The statement outlined the discoveries made during the operation, including signs of occultism and cannibalism found in the searched buildings used by the terrorists.
The troops also uncovered various items, such as Biafran currencies, fake US Dollar bills, Biafran Liberation Army T-shirts, military kit bags, cables used for IED detonation, axes, and other materials.
Unuakhalu mentioned that two suspects were arrested during the operation, and the corpses of burnt policemen were discovered for proper burial.
“The troops also destroyed the IED-making factory of the terrorists and recovered rank badges of two policemen that were kidnapped along Enugu-Port Harcourt Road.
“Other items discovered include Biafran currencies, fake US Dollar bills, Biafran Liberation Army T-shirts, and other Biafran insignia.
“Military kit bags, cables used for IED detonation and axes.
“Two suspects were arrested, and also burnt policemen’s corpses were discovered for proper burial,” he said.
