Seun Kuti, son of the late Fela Kuti and Afrobeat musician, is reportedly hiding after the Inspector-General of Police ordered his arrest for allegedly assaulting a police officer on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in response to the incident, police officers raided Seun’s Lagos apartment and the African shrine in Ikeja but couldn’t find him.
According to a source, efforts are underway to apprehend Seun, who is suspected to have gone into hiding, Vanguard reports.
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has condemned the alleged assault and commended the Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman Alkali, for promptly ordering Seun’s arrest and prosecution.
Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer, has also revealed that Seun sought his legal services after the IGP’s order to immediately arrest the singer. This followed the circulation of a viral video on Saturday showing Seun slapping a uniformed policeman.
Falana said: “I am his lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.”
Falana added that the embattled singer would turn himself in on Monday, saying, “He is going to report himself to the police tomorrow morning (today). There is no problem at all.”
