A video shared by Sahara Reporters on social media showed a heated altercation erupted between two soldiers and police officers, escalating from a dispute over a traffic violation in Ikoe Ekiti, Ekiti state.
According to the report, the soldiers, reportedly riding a motorcycle against traffic, were confronted by a female police officer, leading to a verbal confrontation.
The situation quickly turned physical, prompting the policewoman to call for backup as tensions rose.
The video showed armed policemen allegedly beating an unarmed soldier, purportedly in response to the soldier’s assault on the policewoman and tearing off her uniform.
Sunday Abutu, the Ekiti police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, citing it as a case of traffic violation and serious assault on the policewoman while she was carrying out her duties.
He reported that the two soldiers involved have been arrested and are currently under investigation.
The clash is reminiscent of previous conflicts between police personnel and soldiers. In 2022, a police officer was beaten to death by soldiers, prompting authorities of both services to caution their personnel publicly.
