Political class to blame for dividing the country — Falana

Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana, SAN, blames the political class for destroying the gains of the struggle of the country’s founding father by dividing the country using religion and ethnicity.

According to Mr Falana, restructuring the country will be possible with equality and justice, which can lead to peace, unity, and harmony across various nationalities residing in the country.

He spoke up regarding this issue on Monday in Abuja at the DAAR Communications National Discourse, which focuses on dialogues around ethnic nationalities and the emerging challenges in Nigeria.

The Ekiti native lawyer also called out the Nigerian government’s unjust appointments, and how it provided a channel for promoting disunity.

“No doubt the Nigerian government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has a long way in ensuring that peace and unity thrive,” Falana said.

Panelists and speakers at the dialogue also called on the Buhari administration to take action, and genuinely begin the process that will create peace and unity in the country.

Mr Falana, a former President of the West Africa Bar Association (WABA), is also a renowned human rights lawyer and activist. He has spoken up regarding multiple human rights issues in the country, with the latest surrounding the #EndSARS protests.
