Hezekiah Bamiji, an aide to the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke has described the defection of two senators from the state to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a political miscalculation.
Bamiji while speaking on Channels Television said the two lawmakers – Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) – were quick with their defection from PDP to APC.
Recall that both Fadahunsi and Fadeyi had officially announced their defection to the APC on the floor of the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday.
According to both lawmakers, their defection followed irreconcilable differences among PDP leaders at the national level.
However, in reaction to their decision to leave the PDP, Bamiji said the lawmakers were only misled by rumours that the governor had planned to defect to the APC.
His words, “Maybe what I can say is a kind of miscalculation on the part of the lawmakers. The rumour perhaps overwhelmed them, thinking that the governor was coming, they felt that they were Abuja politicians and should be faster than the governor.”
The governor’s aide added that Adeleke remains the PDP leader in Osun State and that the lawmakers failed to consult with him before they decided to leave the party.
He further noted that the governor need not defect to the APC to be able to deliver good governance to the people of Osun State.
“Even if the governor was going to move, did they ask the governor any questions? Yes, the APC set a trap for them, and they entered,” he added.
