Petroleum and Gas Engineer, Bala Zakka, has criticised the state of the Nigerian economy, insisting that anyone claiming the economy is performing well or not experiencing stunted growth is being dishonest.
Zakka made the remarks on Thursday during an interview, where he lamented that all key economic indicators were in decline and that citizens were not benefitting from basic entitlements in any sector.
“The only thing Nigerians are enjoying today is oxygen,” he said, adding that if leaders had the means, “they would even lock the oxygen.”
The engineer stressed that he was speaking strictly as a Nigerian, not as a politician, declaring, “As far as I’m concerned, the economy is hurting.
“Nigerians are groaning in pain. The variables are down. There is serious poverty and the facts are clear.”
He further argued that since the return to democracy, Nigerian leaders had been “caged by propaganda merchants,” warning that unless such influences were eliminated, “Nigeria’s economy will finally grind into the valley.”
Zakka noted the absence of guarantees in critical sectors such as electricity, education, healthcare, agriculture, and security, insisting that citizens had been left to struggle without proper support.
