Popular Political Commentator Gives Strong Reason Why Tribunal May Invalidate Peter Obi, Tinubu

A political activist, Deji Adeyanju, has hinted that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal may invalidate the nominations of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Adeyanju tweeted that the tribunal could invalidate Obi’s nomination for not meeting the requirements of the Electoral Act on membership register and Shettima’s nomination for double nomination.

According to Adeyanju: “Will be extremely surprised if the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal does not invalidate the nomination of Peter Obi by LP in line with the provisions of the EA on membership register.

“The Double nomination of Shettima is also enough to invalidate Tinubu’s candidacy.”

However, Adeyanju also expressed doubt that the tribunal would have the courage to declare the nominations invalid.

The Supreme Court had previously struck out a suit brought by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, seeking to disqualify Tinubu and Shettima due to alleged double nomination. However, Adeyanju argued that the Supreme Court’s ruling did not address the substantive matter.

The Supreme Court didn’t rule on the substantive matter sir but only on technicality. His double nomination is clearly in violation of Electoral Act,” he said.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal is expected to give judgement to the petitions brought before it by the PDP and Labour Party, LP, soon.
