Nigerian Army reshuffles top command, appoints new GOCs and principal officers

The Nigerian Army has announced a strategic reshuffle within its high command, naming new Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), General Officers Commanding (GOCs), and other senior commanders to key positions across various formations nationwide.

In the latest redeployment approved by the Army High Command, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife has been appointed as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Ibadan, while Major General A.S.K. Wase now takes over as GOC, 1 Division, Kaduna.

Also affected by the shake-up is Major General M.O. Erebelu, who has been named the new Provost Marshal (PM), and Major General A.A. Idris, who assumes office as Chief of Military Intelligence (CMI).

Other senior officers assigned to new roles include Major General J.E. Osifo, now Director General, Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration (NASFA).

Major General A.A. Adeyinka, appointed Chief of Logistics at the Army Headquarters, Major General Adetoba, now Commandant, Nigerian Army College of Logistics Management (NACOLM).

Major General Ugiagbe, former CMI, now Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation (CASE), Major General Akesode, appointed to head the Army’s Monitoring, Verification & Compliance Mission in the Tigray Region of Ethiopia, and Major General M.T. Abdullahi, now in charge of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Center (NACWC).

According to military sources, the redeployment is aimed at repositioning the Nigerian Army for greater efficiency and effectiveness in addressing current security challenges and fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.

All the new postings and appointments will take effect between August 19 and 25, 2025.
