President Tinubu initiates reconciliation talks between Ganduje and Kwankwaso ahead of 2027

President Bola Tinubu has embarked on reconciliation efforts between the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, and the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Multiple reliable sources have confirmed that President Tinubu separately communicated his intention to both leaders, urging them to inform their respective stakeholders about the initiative.

The president was said to have provided them with a window of time to garner support for the reconciliation process before returning to finalize the talks.

President Tinubu, who recently met with Ganduje and selected APC stakeholders from Kano State, praised Ganduje’s reconciliation skills in previous instances and expressed the need for a unified front within the party.

It was revealed that during the meeting, the president did not specifically mention Kwankwaso but emphasized the importance of reconciliation in Kano State.

President Tinubu reportedly tasked Ganduje with initiating the reconciliation process in Kano, urging him to use his skills to solidify unity among APC stakeholders.

Despite reservations from some APC members, sources indicate that there was no dissenting voice during the meeting with the president.

Ganduje is scheduled to convene a meeting with Kano APC stakeholders on Thursday to address concerns and garner support for the reconciliation efforts. The meeting is expected to include party stalwarts from all 44 local government areas in Kano.

President Tinubu also met with NNPP leader Kwankwaso in a separate development, hinting at his resolve to bring both leaders into the APC fold.

The president reportedly instructed them to consult with their respective stakeholders and return with two persons each for a final reconciliation meeting.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the Chairman of the Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives, expressed support for reconciliation.

He told Daily Trust: “I was part of the meeting with Mr. President and Mr. President was simply suggesting that as one people from the same state (Kano), he recalled meeting all of us in the same group before the 2015 general elections, and that it will not be bad for us to come back together under one party. It was a suggestion, not a marching order. But when a leader suggests something, it’s as good and effective as an order.

“I don’t think I can oppose the reconciliation as a Muslim and with my knowledge of politics. We will be glad if reconciliation can be forged to push the state and party to greater heights. But I hope such reconciliation will be based on genuine intentions so that at the end, none of us will be taken for granted.”
