The Super Eagles of Nigeria will receive a morale boost as President Bola Tinubu will be attending the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday.
This announcement came during a press conference by CAF President Patrice Motsepe, who urged Nigeria to consider hosting the World Cup.
“Nigeria must put in a bid,” Motsepe said. “The Nigerian president is coming to watch the final on Sunday. I will have a conversation with him about it.”
Tinubu’s presence at the final follows his earlier video call with the team ahead of their quarter-final against Angola. The President’s son, Seyi Tinubu, shared the footage on social media, showcasing his father’s encouragement for the Super Eagles.
This news comes amidst previous reports of Tinubu’s dissatisfaction with the team’s performance during the group stage. The President, through Sports Minister John Enoh, had urged the team to improve and strive for better results in the knockout stages.
The Super Eagles will face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final on Sunday, February 11th, at 9 pm Nigerian time.
