
Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu will on Saturday, June 28, depart Abuja for Saint Lucia and Brazil, the presidency has said.
Bayo Onanuga, an aide to the president said Tinubu will be embarking on a two-nation tour for the purpose of enhancing South-South cooperation and attending the BRICS Summit.
The presisent will make his first stop in Saint Lucia to pay a state visit to the nation as part of his administration’s effort to deepen engagement with the Caribbean countries.
He would further visit Brazil to participate in the 17th Summit of BRICS in Rio de Janeiro.
The 2025 BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro will take place between July 6 and 7, 2025.
In Brazil, the president will pay a courtesy visit to the Governor-General, Cyril Errol Melchiades Charles, and the Prime Minister Philip Pierre.
He will also address a special joint session of the Senate and the House of Assembly of Saint Lucia at the William Jefferson Clinton Ballroom, Sandals Grande, Gros Islet.
In addition, he will meet with top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the Nigerian community.
He will also be hosted to a luncheon with the Heads of Government of OECS, after the joint session of the Parliament of Saint Lucia to discuss the partnership between the two nations.
Onanuga said, “The 17th BRICS Summit will focus on “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance”. Discussions will prioritise two key areas: Global South Cooperation and BRICS Partnerships for Social, Economic, and Environmental Development.
“Senior government officials will accompany President Tinubu on both visits,” he added.
