The leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, on Tuesday called on President Bola Tinubu to arrest politicians allegedly financing terrorism, warning that Nigeria’s insecurity will not end otherwise.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele said efforts to curb insecurity would be futile if the financiers are not identified and held accountable.
He added that even with foreign assistance, including from the United States, the presence of these financiers remains the major obstacle to lasting security.
“If the government doesn’t arrest those financing terrorism, we are not yet serious; the insecurity will not end,” he said.
“There are governors, top senators, and former governors in this category, and they should be arrested. If we don’t do it, it shows we are not committed.
“Even with America’s support, without identifying and arresting these people, it will be a wasted effort.”
Primate Ayodele also urged President Tinubu to approve the creation of state, federal, and regional police forces to strengthen national security.
He further recommended clearing overgrown bushes across the country, noting that they provide shelter for terrorists.
“Security agencies must rise to the occasion and focus on both security and the economy. Efforts should be made to clear bushes nationwide, as that is where the terrorists are hiding,” he added.
