Private Hospital Willing to Admit Nnamdi Kanu – Counsel

The legal team of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), says a private hospital in Abuja has offered to admit and treat him amid concerns over his health.

Kanu’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed this on Friday while addressing journalists in Abuja. He said the offer came after controversies surrounding Kanu’s access to proper medical care.

“Just two days ago, I wrote a letter. A private hospital has also expressed readiness to admit him here in Abuja,” Ejimakor said. “For security reasons, I won’t mention the name of the hospital. But if the government has issues with taking him to the National Hospital, we have given them the option of a private hospital”

The Nigerian government had earlier asked the court to reject an application seeking to transfer Kanu to the National Hospital for treatment.

When asked if the court had ruled on the application, Ejimakor explained: “No, it’s pending. It hasn’t been rejected. It’s pending, depending on the admission of his report from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) and their opinion. And you know, the judge ordered that the committee to be considered by the NMA shall have a member from the National Hospital. So the National Hospital is still in play.”

Kanu, who is standing trial on terrorism charges at the Federal High Court in Abuja, is said by his lawyers to be in worsening health, with claims that he requires urgent medical care.
