Protest: “Tinubu’s govt escalating fear across Nigeria” – Ex-minister laments

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has condemned the Nigerian government for allegedly spreading fear in the lead-up to the protests scheduled for August 1st.

Ezekwesili criticized the administration for attempting to intimidate citizens who are expressing their grievances about the state of governance.

In a post on X, the former minister expressed solidarity with the protest organizers, asserting that the demonstration is a legitimate means for Nigerians to voice their dissatisfaction.

“This unrelenting media propaganda all over the country by the @NigeriaGov and their supporters is just because their badly governed and suffering Citizens finally got distressed and discomfited enough to collectively raise their Voice and ask them to please #EndBadGovernance?” Ezekwesili wrote.

She accused the government of using fear tactics instead of addressing the citizens’ demands for improved governance.

“Your Citizens are asking for Good Governance and instead of seeing this as an opportunity, you are escalating Fear in the Land? Truly sad to see,” she said.

Ezekwesili praised the resilience of Nigerians amid severe economic hardship, stating that the protest underscores the power of the people.

“At least one good thing from this massive propaganda machinery that has been unleashed is the BIG evidence that The Power of the People is indeed greater than The People in Power,” she added.
